O Mayhem é uma banda de Black Metal da Noruega. É considerada uma das melhores e mais importantes bandas de toda a história do black metal mundial. O nome Mayhem surgiu da faixa "Mayhem With Mercy", encontrada no álbum "Welcome to Hell" (1981), da banda inglesa Venom, considerada a primeira banda de Black Metal da história.

Formada em 1984 por Øystein Aarseth (Euronymous), a formação inicial, além de Euronymous, contava com Necrobutcher (baixo), Manheim (bateria) e Maniac (vocal). Foi com esta formação que o Mayhem lançou seu primeiro disco, um EP, em 1987, intitulado Deathcrush.
